Zoë Bisbing, MSW, LCSW

Certified Family-Based Treatment Practitioner
Founder of Body-Positive Therapy NYC

Hi, I’m Zoë Bisbing, the founding director of Body-Positive Therapy NYC. I have been working with children, adolescents, and adults struggling across the disordered eating spectrum since 2009. I got my start on the eating disorders inpatient unit of New York Presbyterian Hospital-Payne Whitney Westchester supporting individuals and families affected by the most acute and severe presentations of anorexia, bulimia, and co-occurring psychiatric illnesses. These experiences connected me with hundreds of individuals and families who taught me how devastating and commonly misunderstood eating disorders can be. I also learned the truth about how many folks get shut out of treatment because their internal suffering does not manifest in weights “low enough” or labs and vitals “bad enough” to meet traditional criteria for access. I firmly believe that a peaceful relationship with food and body is our birthright, as it is an essential ingredient to finding inner harmony and balance.

I believe that the more deeply we understand our innermost world — our thoughts, feelings, sensations — the better and more authentically we can navigate our lives. My integrative approach is rooted in relational-psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems, and Cognitive Behavioral theories. My commitment to social justice and the Health at Every Size® movement allows me to create a safe space for folks of all shapes, sizes, and gender expressions.

In addition to my clinical work, I am the co-founder and director of The Full Bloom Project, a body-positive parenting resource through which I host the Full Bloom Podcast and speak to groups of parents, professionals, and students about how to boost body-positivity for a more embodied and inclusive next generation.

I am a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker and hold a Master of Social Work from New York University, a Bachelor of Arts from Smith College, and a certification in Family-Based Treatment from the Institute for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders. I have also completed additional training in Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E) through the Centre for Research on Eating Disorders at Oxford.
