about body-positive therapy nyc

Welcome. We are so glad you found your way here.

Body-Positive Therapy NYC is a specialty group psychotherapy practice with a social justice mission. Individuals and families come to us with struggles spanning the full disordered eating spectrum to heal their relationships with food and body and to rediscover their most authentic selves. We work with folks whose challenges fall at the intersection of body, food, and reproductive health, as well co-occurring concerns, such as anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, life transitions, gender identity, sexuality, and trauma. We welcome all parts of you.

We believe that all bodies are fundamentally good and deserve to be nourished with food, joyful movement, pleasure, connection, and belonging. However, many people, for many different reasons, learn otherwise. The cards are stacked against most of us — folks with marginalized identities in particular — when we consider the various systems of oppression embedded in the fabric of our culture: narrow, eurocentric appearance-ideals, unrelenting fat phobia, and the multi-billion dollar diet and “wellness” industry that preys on our insecurities. Factor in wild card genetics and temperamental vulnerabilities and you can see how what may start as “normative body discontent” might morph into a full-blown, clinical eating disorder.

Regardless of where you or your child fall on this spectrum, we offer evidence based treatment and close collaboration with similarly aligned physicians, dietitians, and psychiatrists to ensure that your whole being — body and mind (and spirit, if you are so inclined) — are well attended to.

When we reconnect with our body, it doesn’t just mean we may have more confidence or a better relationship to the mirror. It means we reconnect to the information superhighway that is our body. It means we reconnect to what our bodies are telling us - not just about food or hunger - about everything.
